Makes me Happy

So since we've moved in to our house I've taken a liking to plants.  Inside and outside.  Now to those of your who know me well, know I've never cared about plants and I've actually never been able to keep anything alive.  My mom has a green thumb and was very surprised by my new interest, but I've realized that as long as my plants are in pots and I don't have to dig around in dirt that may have critters in it, I'm good.  So far so good, I haven't killed anything yet.

So this all started with a plant mom gave me when Nick and I moved into our new house.  This was a plant that I made for mom in pre-school and she was not only able to keep it alive all these years she also made more plants from the one I made and gave me one of the "off spring" (picture to come).

To the left is an Ivy plant that I bought.  Mom bought two last fall and I just thought they were so cute.  She also was able to find little vases at Wal-Mart that had ivy on them that she put them in and they are just so cute  (I have yet to find the cute ivy vase for mine).  The vase that the plant is sitting in is actually a vase I got from Winn Dixie on closing day.  As we were shutting down we were allowed to take certain things if we wanted them, most of the floral department was stuff that we were given.  I actually got my ivy at Harris Teeter!  It was $3.99, not a bad deal.  This was my first discovery of Harris Teeter's floral department and I have come to realize that they have a lot of cute little plants that so far, seem fairly healthy (and cheap too!).  It has actually grown a lot since I got it several months ago and it is so cute and little.  These little plants sit well on our window sills so I can look at them every morning before I leave for for work (I also can't forget to water them because the water is right there).  If the plants aren't near water I forget to water them (whoops!).

This is a cute little pink plant (I really don't know what it's called).  Nick was nice enough to buy this plant for me one night when we were grocery shopping (yes, Harris Teeter again!  $2.99).  It was just too cute to pass up, I mean how often do you see a plant with pink leaves?  The vase was something that mom found in her garage and gave to me.  I wasn't sure how I was going to use it but it was cute so I took it.  Several weeks later I got this plant and it went perfect because the little pink flower matched the pink leaves (the blue also matches the navy blue kitty bottle sitting next to it!).

These last two plants I actually got yesterday at Harris Teeter (I know again!).  These plants were more expensive than any of the last ones $5.99 each.  But I couldn't just leave them behind.  The one to the left is purple passion (or so that's what the tag says).  It is actually furry!  The purple is furry, so it's pretty cool.  I can't remember what the one below is called.  I meant to write down the names of these plants before I came to the computer but I forgot.  I just really liked this one because it has green leaves but then the leaves have speckles of red, yellow and orange.  Pretty cool!  Maybe the name has something to do about a burning bush (at least the common name for it).  I'm kinda worried about the plant below because it is a "high light" plant, so hopefully the sun shines enough in the window to constitute "high light".

I usually try to choose my plants by how easy they are to take care of according to the card.  Let's face it if the say it's hard to take care of I'm going to kill it in about a week (remember I forget to water things).  I like having plants around it's like therapy.  I actually play with my plants on the weekends.  The past several weekends I've spent time re-potting some of my outside plants because they cold weather destroyed the pots.  So this is it for my window sill plants.  They are pretty cute aren't they? :)

So this is the plant that I was talking about earlier.  Mom gave it to me when we moved into our house.  I gave it to her when I was in pre-school and mom made "off spring" of it over the years and has been giving them away.  She probably have 5 of these plants in her house all from the one I made her more than 20 years ago.  I decided if mom could do it so could I, so when I had to cut the vines because they were getting too long I cut the leaves off and put them in a vase with water to see if the would grow.  And sure enough they did!  See the picture below....
I was able to make my chutes grow roots in the water and then today I finally put them in this pot with dirt this evening.  I'm hoping they perk up a little because right now they're kinda droopy where they lay over the pot but that's how they grew in the vase they were in.  As long as they stay alive I will consider it a success.  Maybe later I'll take pictures of my outside plants that are also doing really well and tell you all about them.  As you can see these plants make me happy!

On another note!  Look at these super cute bowls I got for Kitty today...tea cups with saucers.  This crazy cat probably has more bowls for herself than Nick and I have to share.  But when I see cute bowls (especially on sale) I have to have them.  She's such a prissy cat with her tea cup bowls.  Maybe she'll have a tea party with her friends one day while we're at work.
